THIS year’s Annual Service of Remembrance, led by the Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Geoff Settle, takes place at the Cenotaph War Memorial on Bridge Foot this Sunday, November 8.
Proceedings start at 10.15am when a Parade marches from Warrington Town Hall led by Warrington Pipe Band and march to the Cenotaph via Warrington town centre.
At 10.59am the Last Post will be sounded. Followed by a national two minutes silence.
At 11.20am approx – War Memorial service concludes and parade reforms for march past and parade back to the town hall.
Members of the public attending must access the war memorial via the marked crossing points. Please be aware of moving traffic – do not attempt to step into the road. Stewards will be on hand to direct you across the marked crossing points.
Road closures will be in place from throughout the morning to assist with crowd movement.
Delays around the Bridge Foot area are expected as all movement of traffic is stopped around the War Memorial for the national two minutes silence.
Warrington Borough Council’s Armed Forces/World War 1 Commemoration Task Group announced its commitment to improving the Cenotaph towards the end of last year and is continuing to invest in the memorial.
The Council has spent in excess of £70k this year investing in the Cenotaph.

This includes £31, 600 for the new crossing facility, £80 for a new flag, £40,000 for ongoing structural checks and technical assessments of the wall and embankment and the council has maintained the area immediately around the Cenotaph including bins, potholes and flower beds.
Deputy leader and chair of the Armed Forces/World War 1 Commemoration task group, Cllr Mike Hannon, said: “Remembrance Sunday is an important day in the calendar and anyone who wishes to pay their respects to those who suffered in conflicts is welcome to attend.
“The day is an opportunity for the town to unite and remember those who have fallen at the hands of war and who sacrificed themselves to secure our freedom.”
“The council is committed to maintaining the Cenotaph in a respectful manner. Improvements have been made during this year and residents will see that more are planned for next year so we are committed to improving this important memorial.”
The Mayor is also supporting the British Legion’s ‘poppy people’ appeal to search for volunteers.
He said “Anyone over the age of 16 can help and there are many different ways to do so e.g. caseworkers, visitors fundraisers that will help continue their work supporting the Armed Forces community.
“During my time as Mayor I have met many veterans and charities that support them. They tell me that your contribution has made and will continue to make a great deal of difference to them, no matter how small.”

Bins,,? what bins there never has been any for many years many many years at that.
the pot holes have been refilled over and over and over, until they sink again and then just get re covered again….
The crossing are great but unless public had pushed these thy still wouldn’t have been done, ?
If they had then why not years ago..

also the crossing are just the same as all crossing its NOT disabled access far from it,
I hope the council do carry on ,, s the new bridge will also bring 630 new homes,more traffic, and smiths land ?
The cenotaph site its self dose not have disables access. crossing the road dose which now vastly has limited the danger to all that access the site
