THE first Fairfield Fringe Festival got off to a good start with two events at The Old School, Fairfield Street, Warrington
A Wellbeing Day was attended by more than 70 people to take part in the special therapies on offer – and the plan is to continue with more similar days on the second Saturday of each month at The Old School.
Treatments include massage, reflexology and reiki among others and all treatments are at a special price of only £12.50.
The second event was a variety evening organised by The Old School and the Friends of St Elphin’s Park.
Local entertainers, the Ring O’Bells Jammers, who play together “just for fun” every Thursday in the Ring O’Bells, opened the evening with a lively couple of songs, followed by popular local due, Double Treble, the newly formed Two Hoots and It’s All About Me.
The Yorkshire Poets completed the line up with their own particular brand of humour and cynicism.
Throughout the day, Bramble, the mascot park keeper teddy bear from St Elphin’s Park collected more than £70 for his New Pyjamas for Christmas Appeal; he is working with WBC Central Neighbourhood’s Team to provide new pyjamas for some of the less fortunate children in the area this Christmas.
This Friday will see festival activities moving into The Ring O’Bells on Church Street from 7.30pm when there will be an “open mic” Folk & Poetry evening.
A hot supper will be provided by mine hosts Pauline and Dennis, and the evening will be led by local folk trio, Sixpenny Cut.  Entrance is free, donations during the evening to Bramble’s Pyjama Fund and the Fringe Festival 2016 Fund.
This Saturday there will be an opportunity to meet with local artists, based in The Old School, Fairfield Street.
There will be displays of work in all media:  oil, textiles, water colours, ceramics, as well as community craft projects.  Artists will be working throughout the day and welcoming visitors to their work areas to chat about their art and work.  Starting at 10am, entrance to the event is free and there is free parking at The Old School.  Refreshments will be available throughout the day from The Pavilion Pop Up Tea Rooms.
