Death of well known businessman

THE funeral will take place tomorrow (Tuesday July 1) of well known Warrington businessman Stuart Swinden who had been chairman of Warrington Council for Voluntary Service for many years, who died last Monday (June 23).
Stuart, aged 70, of Beechways, Appleton, Warrington, worked in the nuclear industry and with an industrial service company where he had a variety of technical, commercial, marketing, managerial and director roles.
From 1978 to 1988 he was managing director of a medical equipment company in Runcorn manufacturing and selling advanced medical laboratory equipment throughout the world. Since 1989 Stuart had been the owner, and was still chairman of his company, Flamefast (UK) based in Manchester, which manufactures gas-fired educational equipment mainly for use in the design technology area of schools and colleges. He was also chairman and a shareholder of Weldspares Limited in Warrington.
Since 1982 he had been Chair/Director of the Warrington Training Trust Limited. He was Chair of the Warrington Council for Voluntary Service since 1995 and since 2001 was Vice Chair/Director of the Warrington Community Resource Centre which is now known as the Gateway. He had been Chair of the Salford Science and Technology Regional Organisation (SATRO) since 1994. SATRO became SETPOINT Greater Manchester in 2001 and he continued to Chair that organisation.
He was Chair of the Greater Manchester Education Business Link Strategic Consortium from 2002 to 2004 and from 2005 had been a director of Manchester Solutions. From 2004 he had been a director of Work Solutions Limited.
A Freemason, Stuart was Chairman of the Warrington Masonic Hall Company.
Stuart died in Clatterbridge Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Bernardine, a son, a daughter and a step-son.
The funeral will take place at St Elphin’s Parish Church, Warrington, at 3.00pm followed by committal at Walton Lea Crematorium at 4.0pm.
