STUDENTS from Warrington Collegiate took a break from their studies to enjoy a six day whistle-stop tour of the Big Apple with its bright lights and big personality.
Students took in the world-famous sights like the majestic Statue of Liberty and iconic Empire State Building.
Culture vultures headed to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and still found time to shop at Fifth Avenue megastores such as Macy’s as well as sampling the cuisine at the famous Ellen’s Stardust Diner on Broadway before taking in a show –Chicago.
Sports mad students cheered on their favourite team as baseball team New York Yankees took on Boston Red Sox.  One of the highlights of the trip was the breath-taking views of the New York Skyline from the Top of the Rock Observation Deck of the Rockefeller Center.
Denise Williamson, Assistant Principal who accompanied the students, said: “Our students work really hard and this trip was an opportunity for them to have some fun and relax. We chose New York because of its wide appeal; it’s the inspiration for countless great works of film, literature and music, is home to some world-class museums and art gallery and billed as the city that never sleeps, perfect for students wanting to maximize the opportunities of a short city break.”
No trip to New York is complete without a visit to Ground Zero to learn about the stories of tragedy and heroism of 9/11 and to gain a deeper understanding of the events that unfolded during that day.
Mike Ignatius, Student Liaison Officer at Warrington Collegiate who organised the trip added: “This was a fantastic trip, packed with activities, food and culture. Visiting Ground Zero was sobering; everyone was very quiet, just contemplating the events of that terrible day and the repercussions afterwards.  Everyone came back energised and ready for the challenges ahead before the students leave us for university or employment.”
