WOOLSTON Under 13s Greens recorded their first win of the season with a deserved 30-14 win away at Leigh East.
Despite an early handling error, the boys applied fast pressure to take back possession and opened the scoring with a try from fullback Jack Hickman. They then went on to show some early improvement from their
previous games with better communication, line speed and tackling which led to a second try from Hickman to take the score to 0-12, with both conversions from Connor Wrench.
At half-time the score was 6-12 but in the second half the boys again showed much improvement but made the game far too hard work with a
lack of discipline in the way they reacted to referee’s calls and four unforced knock-ons at the play-the-ball.
Despite this the boys battled through with Jack Hickman finishing his hat-trick, Theo Dutton crossing the line and Connor Wrench, who was 100 per cent in kicking conversions, getting a try of his own.
The boys next face Rochdale Mayfield in a cup game at home next Sunday.
