Class of '47 reunion

A REUNION of pupils who left a Warrington school 50 years ago is to take place tonight (Saturday).
All are either 65, or in their 65th year and they all went to the former Stocks Lane Junior School at Penketh.
The school closed about 10 years ago but the 80 people expected tonight will be able to meet in the old buildings – now renovated and converted into The Oaks community centre.
Mavis Peacock, one of the organisers of the event, said: “We have got people coming from Canada, Spain, Scotland and Wales, as well as from all over England. Only about seven or eight people still live in Penketh or Great Sankey.
“”Fifty years ago Penketh was quite a small village so it is remarkable that we have been able to get so many to attend. There are others, of course, who can’t come. But we’ve had messages from former pupils in Australia, Canada and South Africa.”
Most pupils in 1947-48 went on from Stocks Lane Junior to either Penketh Secondary Modern – now Penketh High School – or Wade Deacon Grammar School at Widnes.
