65 will fight council seats

A TOTAL of 65 candidates will go to the polls in the borough council elections at Warrington on May 1.
Labour and the Liberal Democrats will be fielding a candidate in every ward to be contested.
The Conservatives will not fight Orford, where Labour deputy leader Mike Hannon will be defending his seat but an Independent will be contesting the seat.
At Fairfield and Howley, a Labour seat is being defended by a candidate for the Labour and Co-operative parties.
Labour will be defending 10 seats, the Liberal Democrats seven and the Conservatives two.
Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary candidate for Warrington South Jo Crotty (pictured, right)will be fighting the Bewsey and Whitecross ward, where her party gained a seat last year.
Labour leader Terry O’Neill (pictured, left)will be defending his seat at Burtonwood and at Stockton Heath, Liberal Democrat Sue Dodd will defend her seat against Stephen Taylor, a founder of the Stockton Heath Alternative Residents’ Council (SHARCs) who has joined the Conservatives.
The Green Party is fielding six candidates and the British National Party two.
