SOCCER legend Gary Owen is backing pupils and staff at his former school, Penketh High School in Warrington, who have recorded a Christmas single entitled ‘Hope’ to raise funds for a youngster suffering from a rare form of prostate cancer.
The song is performed by the school choir and has been written by music teacher Mrs. Anna Jones and is now available on iTunes, YouTube and several other major music platforms. All proceeds are being donated to 15 month old Alder Hey patient Parker Royle from Great Sankey who is battling a rare prostate cancer.
Owen a former pupil at the school and now a “Hall Hero” heard about the fund-raising when he attended a recent school assembly.
Now Owen, who is an ambassador at Warrington Town FC is urging people to download the song to help raise funds.
“It is a very good piece of music and for a great cause,” said Owen, who shot to fame as a youngster with Manchester City.
The video has been produced on location all around Warrington from Sankey Valley Park to the Golden Square with cameo appearances from Warrington Wolves, Warrington Youth Club, Peace Centre, Ikea, Livewire, Lingley Mere, Rivendell Garden Centre, Walton Lea Garden Centre and shops on Honiton Square.
The school’s principal Ben Dunne said: “Producing this single has been a fantastic experience for our pupils and reminds us about the importance of community and working together, particularly at Christmas. We all now want to raise as much money as possible having read about Parker’s brave fight and the amazing work that staff at Alder Hey Hospital are doing day in and day out to support Parker and his family. Our hope is that everybody now goes out and downloads this song.”
The school’s media team ‘Red Rose Media’ have produced a short film to accompany the song with some additional information about young Parker. This film can be seen at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgCac0DMNWs
