WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones has been promoted to Shadow Home Office Minister as part of a re-shuffle by Labour leader Ed Miliband.
She was previously the party’s Shadow Minister of Communities and Local Government.
Her new role will see her working closely alongside Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper.
Ms Jones’ new responsibilities will include becoming the Labour Party’s lead on issues such as domestic violence and violence against women.
She said: “I am delighted to be joining Yvette’s team at the Home Office, a role which I am sure will bring lots of new challenges.
“I very much enjoyed my time shadowing the Department for Communities and Local Government.
“Crime and anti-social behaviour are topics that are often raised with me when I am out and about in Warrington North. This is a very important role to be shadowing, and I am looking forward to getting on with the job.”
Born in Chester, and a former member of the city council, Helen Jones was first elected MP for Warrington North in 1997.
She has previously been a Shadow Deputy Leader of the House of Commons, Shadow Justice Minister, as well as an Opposition Whip.
At the last General Election in 2010 she had a majority of 6,771 over the Conservatives.

  1. It’s not a promotion is it, isn’t it at best a sideways move, indicative of a career that has already peaked. Such is life, at least she has a well paid job.
