PLASTIC doors and window frames will be installed in a historic, 186-year-old chapel building at Warrington if planning chiefs give the go-ahead.
A new front porch will also be added to Providence Chapel, in Chapel Lane, Stockton Heath.
Work has already started on the alterations to the chapel which dates from 1827 and is reputed to be the seat of the Total Abstinence Movement of 1830.
Planners say this gives the building historical as when as architectural merit – although it is not a listed building.
Plans for alterations to the building for office use were approved last year, although at that time the upvc plastic windows and doors were not included.
But amended plans are to be considered by Warrington’s planning committee on Wednesday – and planners admit that the revised scheme has some adverse impact on the character and appearance of the chapel. But they say the changes are not sufficiently different the proposals already approved to warrant refusal.
