WARRINGTON’S “Get Going this Summer” programme celebrates its half-way point this week – with a promise of yet more outdoor fun for even more children.
“Get Going this Summer” is a Change4Life initiative run locally by Warrington Borough Council’s health improvement team and local health partners.
The initiative encourages healthy outdoor activity by arranging outdoor fun for all children at community events across Warrington. The events will run throughout August.
Barbara Parratt of the council’s health improvement team said: “Our ‘Get Going’ events are held all over Warrington including at the VPX events in Victoria Park every Tuesday in August and they’ve been a great success so far. Around 5,000 Warrington people have been involved altogether.
“Last week more than 750 children, parents and grandparents took part in ‘Get Going this Summer’.
“The children get involved in skipping, hula hoops and penalty shoot-out competitions, and they win prizes including footballs, skipping ropes and sun hats, and also fresh fruit. Meanwhile their parents are given information about getting children to be more active, and what activities are available in Warrington.”
Five year old Lyla impressed organisers with her prowess at using two hula hoops at once.
Her mum, Rebecca Hoarts, said: “I thought it was a really good event and we will definitely be going back next week. Lyla loved demonstrating her hula hoop skills and the penalty shoot-out was a big success with my son”.
More information about forthcoming events is available from the Health Promotion Resources Team on 01925 443193 between 8.30am and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
