FORMER probation officer Eric Brady has published the fifth book in his “Alf King” series, which satirises criminals, the criminal justice system and politicians.
Mr Brady, from Great Sankey, Warrington, draws on a knowledge of the criminal justice gathered over more than 30 years and continues the story of Alf King, small-time gang boss who has now discovered he has political ambitions.
But Alf has his own agenda – and it is not to “serve the community”.
Set in the days before Police Commissioners when the police were overseen by locally elected county councillors, he sees election to public office as a way of furthering his criminal career.
His aim is membership of the police authority which, he believes, will enable him to learn all the innermost secrets of police operations.
But his arch-enemy, Detective Sergeant Harry Cuthbertson has his eye on Alf, whose activities even attract the attention of a glamorous Home Secretary.
The not-to-be-taken too seriously story provides plenty of humour and intrigue.
