A NEW one stop shop facility for sexual health services has opened in Warrington.
The Warrington Integrated Sexual Health Service is one of the first in the North West to offer a confidential, high quality professional service, open six days and two evenings a week.
The service, commissioned by the local public health team from the Bath Street Health and Well Being Centre, is a one stop shop for sexual health advice and treatment.
This follows the relocation of the family and reproductive health services from Garven Street and the genito urinary medicine (GUM) sexual health services from Warrington and Halton Hospital Foundation Trust.
The new facility aims to help improve the health of Warrington residents by providing sexual health services and expert advice in a town centre location.
A full range of sexual health advice, contraception services, pregnancy testing, including the assessment and treatment of sexually transmitted infections and HIV treatment is available.
The changes form part of wider plans to integrate sexual health services in the community over the coming months. The integrated service will include a number of community locations, with Bath Street Health and Wellbeing Centre the central hub. A young person services, the new Youth Advice Shop will operate a hub from the Gateway offering a full range of services to young people.
Cllr Pat Wright, the borough council’s executive member for health, wellbeing and adult services said: “This change is about providing the best possible care closer to home for patients. The relocation of this service will create a one stop shop for sexual health advice, contraception and treatment of sexually transmitted infections including HIV treatment.
“There is a continuing stigma surrounding sexual health services, and by taking it out of a hospital, we want people to view looking after their sexual health as routine as visiting the dentist or having their eyes tested.”
Clients will be able to access all sexual health services by calling one central number 01925 644202.
