RAILWAY police seized around 200 cannabis plants in a raid at Warrington earlier today.
The plants were discovered in a “cannabis farm” in a railway arch in Rolleston Street.
A 30-year-old Warrington man was arrested and is now helping officers with their enquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Malcolm McKinnon, of British Transport Police, said: “This represents a significant find and will, undoubtedly, have an impact on the supply of cannabis.
“We are now in the process of forensically examining the plants to discover their value.”
DCI McKinnon added: “Cannabis finds, such as this, are rare on and around the rail network, but we are all too aware of the impact illegal drugs can have on society and will do everything in our power to trace those responsible for the cultivation and bring them to justice.
“Illegal drugs are the root cause of many crimes recorded by British Transport Police and our colleagues in Home Office forces and we will continue to work in partnership to tackle the issue.”
