THREE Warrington primary schools are to be expanded to cater for increasing numbers of pupils at a cost of £1.9 million.
They are Bewsey Lodge Primary, Oakwood Avenue Primary and St Elphin’s CE Primary
In the case of Bewsey Lodge, the school is already a priority school for investment and the new spending will enable the school to be rebuilt with a capacity of 315 pupils rather than the 210 originally planned for.
The money will come from the “basic need” allocation of £3.8 million announced by the Government on March 1.
In addition, new facilities will be provided at Fox Wood and Green Lane special schools, costing £900,000 – the money coming from the maintenance allocation of £1.64 million also announced by the Government in March.
The work has been approved by the borough council’s executive board.
Decisions on where to spend remaining balances of £740,000 from the maintenance allocation and £1.8 million from the basic need allocation will be made later, after officers have reported on primary schools considered to have the next highest priority.
