PLANS to replace a two storey rear extension to a Grade 2 listed cottage look set to be refused by Warrington planners.
The scheme to demolish the extension at Church Cottage West, Church Lane, Grappenhall, is to be considered by the borough’s planning committee.
Officers are recommending the scheme be refused – by Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council and local councillor Mike Biggin are urging planners to visit the site before reaching a decision because they believe replacing the 1980s extension would be appropriate.
The plan involves replacing the old extension with a new one, part two storey and part single storey.
Officers say the principle of replacing the existing extension is not questioned.
However, they say the current proposal would introduce modern features which would not make a positive contribution to the character and appearance of the listed building.

if as you state its a rear extension that could be out of character and hardly seen by Joe Public- then how come a tradiitonal village pub next door (Parr Arms) can suddenly repaint its walls from the familiar and well photographed white to a colour that doesnt do anyhting for the village scene.
