Warrington Wolves homecoming plan revealed – if they lift Grand Final trophy

Warrington could be set for a huge homecoming celebration on Sunday if the Wolves finally lift the Super League trophy at Old Trafford.

Warrington Borough Council has published a Town Police Clauses Act notice setting out a series of road restrictions for a proposed Warrington Wolves Homecoming Event at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
However, the celebrations and restrictions will only come into effect if Warrington Wolves defeat Wakefield Trinity in Saturday’s Betfred Super League Grand Final.
The Wolves face Wakefield at Old Trafford on Saturday, October 3, with kick-off at 6pm, in a historic final between two clubs who have never previously won the Super League title.

Under the notice, vehicles will be prohibited from travelling along or remaining on the following roads between 9am and 3pm on Sunday, October 4, if the homecoming event goes ahead:
• Buckley Street
• Erwood Street
• Dallam Lane – between Tanners Lane and Owen Street
• Winwick Road – between Mike Gregory Way and Pinners Brow
The restrictions cover cars, lorries, coaches and other vehicles, while horses and other animals will also be prohibited from the specified streets during the stated hours.
Anyone deliberately breaching the order could face a penalty of up to £400.

The council says vehicular access will be under the control of the event organisers, while pedestrian and emergency routes will be maintained.

Saturday’s final represents a huge opportunity for Sam Burgess’ side.
Warrington booked their place at Old Trafford after edging out Leeds Rhinos 14-12 in a dramatic semi-final at Headingley, with Ewan Irwin’s 65th-minute penalty proving decisive.
Wakefield then produced one of the shocks of the season by beating league leaders Wigan Warriors to reach their first-ever Super League Grand Final.
Warrington, meanwhile, will be appearing in the Grand Final for the fifth time, having previously lost finals in 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2018. The Wolves have not appeared in the showpiece since their 2018 defeat by Wigan.
Both teams are chasing their first-ever Super League title, meaning history will be made whatever the result on Saturday.
The 2026 Grand Final is scheduled for 6pm on Saturday at Old Trafford, with coverage beginning on Sky Sports from 5pm.
Should Warrington finally end their wait for a Super League title, the council’s notice provides the first official indication that a major public homecoming is being prepared in the town the following morning.
For Wolves supporters, therefore, Sunday morning could be the start of a very different kind of day – with the team potentially returning to Warrington as Super League champions.
For now, however, the council’s planned restrictions remain conditional.
The first task is Old Trafford.
Then, potentially, Warrington’s biggest rugby league homecoming for years on Sunday, October 4.
