Latchford Albion Giants booked their place in the North West Men’s League Division Two play-off final with a convincing 42-12 victory over Saddleworth Rangers A.
Albion produced an impressive performance against a decent Saddleworth side to secure their place in Saturday’s showpiece at their own Victoria Park Arena.
The hosts made the perfect start, opening the scoring after just five minutes when Kyal Melvin powered his way over the line.
Liam Sullivan added the conversion to put Albion 6-0 ahead.
Saddleworth responded with an unconverted try, but Albion quickly regained control with two tries in quick succession from Logan Lagar and Ethan McHendry.
Sullivan converted both to give the hosts an 18-4 advantage at half-time.
Albion continued to dominate after the break and extended their lead when Lagar crossed for his second try of the afternoon.
Rangers refused to give up and responded with a try of their own, raising hopes of a possible comeback.
But Albion soon put the result beyond doubt.
Melvin grabbed his second try of the game before Liam Walker crossed shortly afterwards to put the Giants firmly in command.
Saddleworth added another try, but it was Albion who had the final say.
Sullivan capped an excellent individual performance by scoring a converted try to complete the scoring at 42-12.
The victory sends Latchford Albion through to the NWML Division Two play-off final, where they will face Thatto Heath Crusaders A with the championship title at stake.
And the Giants will have home advantage.
The final takes place at Latchford Albion’s Victoria Park Arena this Saturday, September 26, with kick-off at 11am.
After a comprehensive semi-final victory, Albion will now be hoping to finish the job on home soil and lift the Division Two crown.
