OPPOSITION Lib Dem Councillors are seeking clarity on the closure of the swimming pool at Broomfields Leisure Centre.
Broomfields Leisure Centre pool was shut on 26th July due to a ducting falling from the roof. Luckily the fallen duct didn’t enter the pool, but it did require the Centre to be closed at one of the busiest times of the year in the middle of the school holidays.
Councillors were informed contractors would be on site the following week but since then nothing seems to have happened and the Council will not provide any update for residents or Councillors.
“This is frustrating for everyone, particularly residents in my ward.” says Councillor Matt Scott, Councillor for the Appleton ward.
“Broomfields Leisure Centre and its pool is an invaluable resource for South Warrington and for this prolonged closure to be during the school holidays is a real blow. There are many loyal users of Broomfields and they and the dedicated staff deserve answers.”
Cllr Laura Booth adds: “We know Broomfields is old and in need of urgent investment but Warrington Council, please tell us what is going on. Residents are already thinking Broomfields is the next to fall after Woolston and we want some reassurance this is not going to happen.”
LiveWire states that all swimming sessions at Broomfields Leisure Centre are temporarily cancelled due to essential maintenance required because ducting fell from the roof and that the pool is closed until further notice.
