Brave colleagues, volunteers and supporters of Warrington-based national social care charity Making Space have raised more than £8,800 after taking part in a series of sponsored skydives.
The charity’s Jump July campaign saw participants from across England take on tandem skydives to raise vital funds for Making Space and the local services they are passionate about.
Together, they have already raised an impressive £8,881, with the money helping to support a range of community and social care services delivered by the charity.
Making Space, whose head office is based in Warrington, supports adults and young people across England through mental health services, learning disability support, residential care, carers services, housing support and wellbeing services.
Among those taking part were colleagues, volunteers and supporters raising funds for services including St Helens Family Support, Halton Supported Living, Cedar House Respite Centre in Lincolnshire, Knowsley Supported Housing and Castlewood Court in Stockport. Others chose to raise money for Making Space’s general funds, which help support services across the organisation, including those based in Warrington.
Although some jumps had to be postponed because of poor weather, the fundraising has continued, with more participants due to complete their skydives in the coming weeks.
Participants described the experience as unforgettable.
Johnna Miller, Making Space Team Leader, who completed her jump in support of Halton Supported Living, said: “I definitely have the bug and will be booking to do it again when I have annual leave in August. Amazing experience and I’m so happy I did it.”
Volunteer Craig Muldoon, who raised more than £1,400 for St Helens Family Support, said: “I’m really happy with the amount we’ve raised for a fantastic organisation that saved my life last year, and I know the money will be used for important activities for those supported by the service.”
Leanne Taylor, Making Space Team Leader, who raised money for Cedar House Respite Centre in Lincolnshire, added: “If anyone can get over the nerves, it is a once in a lifetime experience and one of the most amazing things I have ever done in my life.”
Bob Towers, Fundraising Manager at Making Space, said: “We have been absolutely blown away by the response to Jump July. Every single person who signed up showed incredible courage and determination, and together they have raised an amazing amount to support Making Space and our local services. Whether people have already completed their jump, are waiting for a new date or have supported by sponsoring friends and colleagues, every contribution has helped make this campaign such a fantastic success. The funds raised will directly benefit services across the country, including here in Warrington, helping us continue to provide vital support to the people and communities we work alongside. We couldn’t be prouder of everyone involved.”
Making Space hopes the success of Jump July will inspire even more people to support the charity’s future fundraising events.
