Nuisance property shut down after police secure closure order

Police have been granted a closure order to shut down an address in Latchford that has caused a persistent nuisance for neighbouring residents.

The Warrington Central Beat Team were granted the three-month closure order against the address on Reynolds Street, Latchford, at Warrington Magistrates’ Court.
Under the terms of the order, the property will now be inaccessible to anyone and the occupant has been asked to leave and seek alternative accommodation.
Anyone who enters the property during the three-month period could face either a serious fine or a prison sentence.
Officers provided Warrington Magistrates’ Court with a substantial amount of evidence from residents in the surrounding area that detailed various instances of drug dealing and anti-social, violent and threatening behaviour exhibited by the occupant and those known to them.
Incidents at the address included numerous physical alterations between the occupant and other attendees that boiled over from inside the address and on to the street and a high volume of foot traffic attending the address for the facilitation of class A and B drugs at all hours of the day.

These incidents caused a sense a fear amongst members of the local community, feeling their lives were being suitably disrupted. These reports also regularly resulted in policing resources being diverted to the address to respond to incidents involving the occupant and their associates.
Police Constable Andrew Schofield, of Warrington Central Beat Management, said: “This property was a constant source of disruption for residents in the local area and, due to the sheer number of incidents tied to the address in question, officer resources were frequently diverted in its direction to deal with the poor behaviour.
“I am very happy to see that this address has now been shut down and, it goes without saying, it will have a positive impact on the community and will give them some much-needed respite from the disruption caused by their neighbour.”
