FOUR fire crews were called out on Sunday afternoon to tackle a large grass fire on farmland at Winwick, Warrington.
At 13:21, crews from Warrington, Penketh, Lymm and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attended reports of a large grass fire off Newton Road, Winwick.
North West Fire Control had received multiple reports of the fire near Newton Road. On arrival, crews found a large grass fire measuring approximately 400 x 300 metres. Firefighters used hose reels and beaters to tackle the blaze, working alongside a farmer who used farm machinery to create a fire break.
The fire is believed to have been caused accidentally by a fire in a skip that spread to the field.
In another incident at 15:14, one fire crew from Birchwood used a hose reel jet to extinguish a small grass fire on Aston Avenue, Birchwood.
