Lilibet Sews is a sewing venture based in Warrington offering friendly one-to-one sewing lessons in the comfort of students’ homes.
Founded by Liz, the business helps people from the of 12 upwards discover the joy, confidence and wellbeing that comes from learning to sew.
Although Liz taught herself to sew during the pandemic making scrub hats, masks and bags to support the NHS, sewing has been present throughout her life. Her Nan owned a beautiful 1903 vintage sewing machine which Elizabeth now proudly treasures. That early connection, combined with learning the craft for a meaningful cause, shaped the foundations of her business. Liz also completed training in Fashion and Textiles at Salford Community College,
Lilibet Sews officially launched in April 2025 with support from the Community Catalysts programme and Warrington Borough Council. Liz is also listed on the Small Good Stuff directory which showcases local community focused micro enterprises – www.communitycatalysts.co.uk/smallgoodstuff/directory/lilibet-sews/
From the outset, the ethos has been clear: to teach people a new skill in their own home, build confidence, and reach individuals who may not otherwise be able to access sewing due to disability, mobility challenges or anxiety. By offering lessons in familiar surroundings, Liz aims to reduce social isolation and loneliness while helping people discover a calming, creative and practical hobby.
Lessons are delivered one to one across Warrington and nearby areas, making learning convenient and comfortable. Liz specialises in teaching beginners, helping them build confidence with their sewing machine, understand fabrics, and complete their first projects. Many students progress quickly, creating tote bags, cushions, clothing alterations and more advanced makes such as waterproof festival blankets.
Alongside teaching, Liz is an active volunteer with Morsbags, a community initiative transforming donated fabric into reusable shopping bags. She also creates handmade bags and accessories available locally at Hazel Bank Crafts in Bruche. Her handbags are made by upcycling denim jeans and skirts, helping reduce textile waste going to landfill and protecting the environment.
Looking ahead, Liz is excited to be collaborating with Eleven30 Group, with her work soon to be featured via their website – www.eleven30group.co.uk . She is also selling handmade items at a stall at Walton Antiques Emporium, working alongside Justine from Eleven30 Group to showcasing upcycled, handcrafted pieces, alongside her selling vintage fabric .
Liz is currently working with East Latchford Friends to prepare a Morsbag event as part of their Carnival of Creativity on 22 August at Westy Community Centre, further strengthening her commitment to accessible creativity and community engagement.
At its heart, Lilibet Sews is about more than sewing. It is about confidence, creativity, connection and the joy of making something with your own hands. Liz’s warm teaching style and patient guidance have already helped local residents discover a new hobby and she looks forward to welcoming many more.
