ONE of Warrington’s longest-established family retailers, Hancock & Wood, has announced its closing down forever sale at its iconic Bridge Street store after more than 110 years in business, marking the end of an era for the town centre.

In a letter sent to previous customers, Hancock & Wood announced that it has decided to close its famous Bridge Street premises to focus on its other business interests. The company said a major closing down sale will begin for the general public on Friday, 3 July.
Before the public sale opens, loyal customers have been invited to an exclusive two-day private preview, giving them first access to discounted stock. The invitation offers entry on Wednesday, 1 July, and Thursday, 2 July, between 10 am and 8 pm, before doors open to all shoppers on the Friday morning.
Customers have been encouraged to print or save their invitation on their phones and bring it with them to gain access. The retailer also says invitations may be shared with friends and family members.
The announcement was signed by Managing Director Michael Hancock, who thanked customers for their support and said the family looked forward to welcoming them for the special event.
The closure will bring to an end more than a century of trading on Bridge Street, where Hancock & Wood has been a familiar name for generations of Warrington shoppers. The company has not indicated how long the closing down sale will last or provided a final closing date for the store.
The move represents another significant change for Warrington’s high street as one of its best-known independent retailers prepares to close its doors after more than a century of serving the local community.
