A resurgent Workington side made the journey from Cumbria full of confidence, but were comprehensively beaten 3–0 by a strong Warrington Rylands outfit at the Quickline Logistics Arena.

With both teams fighting for crucial end-of-season objectives—Workington aiming to stay clear of relegation and Rylands pushing to secure a play-off spot—the game carried significant weight.

Rylands made the perfect start, taking the lead inside five minutes. Harrison Wood produced an excellent finish that left goalkeeper Alexander Mitchell with no chance.
Workington responded positively and showed why they had climbed to 16th place on the back of a ten-game unbeaten run. They created several opportunities and tested Luke Pilling, but Rylands remained dangerous going forward.
The hosts doubled their advantage after 30 minutes through Ben Hardcastle. Despite appearing to run the ball too far, he managed to unleash a powerful strike into the net.
Rylands continued to press, creating numerous chances, and added a third in unusual fashion. After Mitchell punched the ball clear, it fell to Charlie Munro, whose mis-hit volley trickled through a crowd of players and into the goal.

Manager Neil Reynolds admitted his side could have extended their lead further but praised the team’s performance, especially given injuries and players operating out of position. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining focus, noting previous games where dominance had slipped away.
The second half was a more controlled affair, with Rylands concentrating on preserving their lead. Their defence, supported by Pilling, held firm to secure a clean sheet.
The result ends Workington’s impressive unbeaten run but keeps them just above the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Rylands strengthen their position in the play-off race.
Attention now turns to the big derby clash, as Warrington Rylands face Warrington Town at Cantilever Park on Easter Monday, with kick-off at 3:00 pm.
