WARRINGTON Wolves have today confirmed skipper George Williams will leave the club at the end of the 2026 season, at the end of his current contract, to take up an opportunity with the Dolphins in the NRL.
The Club states it has been in open and honest discussions with George throughout the process and supports his decision to pursue the next chapter of his career in Australia.
Since joining the Wire midway through the 2021 season, George has been an exemplary leader on and off the field, making a significant impact during his time at The Halliwell Jones Stadium. His influence and professionalism have been central to the group, and he will continue to lead the team as captain throughout the 2026 campaign.
Speaking on the decision, George Williams said: “Warrington has been a huge part of my life and I’ve loved every minute of my time at the club.
“Captaining this team and leading the boys out each week is something I’ll always be incredibly proud of.
“Myself and the Club have been very open with each other throughout, and I’m grateful for the understanding and backing they’ve shown me.
“My focus now is fully on this season. I’ll continue to give everything I have for the badge, the playing group and the fans. I’m determined to finish my time here on a high.”
Williams had been linked with a move down under this season but it is understood talks broke down between the Wolves and the Dolphins.
It will be Williams’ second stint down under, having previously played for Canberra Raiders after making the move from Wigan Warriors in 2020. He spent 18 months at the club before returning to Super League with Warrington, where he has remained ever since.
