THE streets of Warrington “glowed up” at the weekend as participants donned their brightest 80s gear for St Rocco’s Hospice’s inaugural Neon Night Walk.

The event, which celebrated the hospice’s 40th anniversary, saw walkers complete a 5k route that started and finished at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

The high-energy event, designed to celebrate four decades of hospice care in the community, brought families, friends, and supporters together to light up the night for a vital cause. Many walkers chose to complete a second lap, turning their 5k into a 10k challenge.
An 80s-themed singer provided entertainment from 6:30 p.m., creating a vibrant party atmosphere before the walk began at 8 p.m. Food and drink were also available for purchase, and neon accessories were on offer for those who wanted to further embrace the retro theme.
Following the event, a spokesperson for St Rocco’s Hospice expressed gratitude for the community’s support. “Thank you to everybody who supported our Neon Night Walk event tonight, it has been a wonderfully bright night and we hope that everybody has enjoyed it as much as we have,” they posted on social media. “It is thanks to your generosity that we can continue to provide care for patients and their families in the Warrington community”.
Each participant received a limited-edition Neon Night Walk t-shirt and a special finisher’s medal for their efforts. The hospice had also sought volunteers to assist with the event, with roles including route marshals and registration staff.
The Neon Night Walk is the latest in a series of community events celebrating the hospice’s 40 years of service, demonstrating the ongoing support from the people of Warrington. The fundraising from the night will help St Rocco’s continue to provide free, compassionate care to patients with life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones.
