Radio General’s Mike Cooper is celebrating 50 years of rugby commentary this month.
It was early September 1975 when a young and nervous Mike Cooper climbed into a little window above the Wilderspool Stadium scoreboard to take his position to commentate on Warrington’s home game against Keighley, which they won 18 points to 16.
On Saturday September 6, and now not so young, he will have completed 50 years of continuous service to patients with his commentary of Warrington Wolves v Leigh Leopards, hoping for another victory from the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Radio General Chairman Keith Inman said: “Mike has offered continuous service to Radio General and over the years has been involved in the committee, its outside broadcasts and transporting equipment far and wide to ensure that the hospital radio service is heard loud and clear.
Thank you, Mike, a dedicated volunteer for over fifty years.”
