WARRINGTON Borough Council has issued a statement asking residents not to install flags illegally on lampposts, currently being displayed in parts of the town as a demonstration of national pride.
The council says painting or displaying flags on public property and highways infrastructure, such as lampposts or roundabouts, without permission from the council is not lawful and the removal of flags will be prioritised based on health and safety concerns.
Union flags are currently being displayed on a stretch of Knutsford Road near Victoria Park.
Flags are also being displayed on Lovely Lane and near Orford Jubilee Hub.

The Statement on self-installed flags and markings said:
“Warrington has a proud legacy of fostering peace, community respect and cohesion. We remain completely supportive of people expressing their national and civic pride in ways that are lawful and respectful.
“However, people shouldn’t attempt to attach flags to, or paint things on, public property and highways infrastructure, such as lampposts or roundabouts, without permission from the Council. “Anything that is attached in this way is not legal.
“As a Council, we would much rather focus our time and increasingly scarce resources on delivering good quality services to our residents and communities.
“We therefore kindly ask residents to lawfully demonstrate and celebrate their national pride with their safety, and the safety of others, in mind. If you have any concerns about the installation of flags, then please contact us. The removal of flags will be prioritised based on health and safety concerns. Other flags may be removed as part of routine maintenance works.”

What might be the other routine works be ?
Clearing the gutters of weeds and grass maybe?
You’re obviously partaking of some dubious substances to even suggest that 🙂
I am not exactly in favour of the way out union and st George’s flags are being used at the moment. They say it’s to be patriotic, but as you can see from two of your three pictures they are so patriotic they have flown two union flags upside down which is a sign of distress.
