GEN’DAI Martial arts students came together to compete in a competition at Lymm Leisure centre.
Members of the club, which has groups in Partington, Lymm and Knutsford, and will soon be opening a group in Urmston, battled it out to win trophies and medals in various disciplines, kata, team kata and kumite.
Kata can be described as choreographed patterns of movements practised either solo or in pairs and kumite means sparring.
The team Kata brought out a brilliant performance from the JKA team from Lymm who took first place in front of the Knutsford team.
The Fearnhead family from Lymm won three first place listings, winning the men’s , ladies’ and girl’s kumite.
Joseph Shard, from Lymm won both the boys kata and kumite. Amy Wright from Warrington took first place in the girl’s kata
An excellent nunchuka competition saw Simon Griffiths take the first place trophy.
Simon said: “The competition gave us a great opportunity to put what we have learned into practice. I am looking forward to the next competition to see how much more we can all push ourselves to constantly improve”
Sensei Dave Shipton said: “All judges, instructors and parents who participated in the event made it a great day and the atmosphere was positive and lively. The essence of the Gen ‘Dai club’s philosophy was captured on the day as the emphasis was on good etiquette.”
