WARRINGTON Wolves boosted their Super League play-off hopes with a much needed 24-10 win over Hull FC.
Josh Thewlis pierced through from his own 20 metres to get the Wolves underway inside five points, against the side currently occupying a top six spot.
He had moved back to his usual wing spot to accommodate the sooner-than-anticipated return of Matt Dufty at full-back.
Thewlis’ brother Jake helped to double Warrington’s lead, but the nerves shown in recent weeks returned ahead of the break as Hull brought themselves back to within two by half-time.
Harvey Barron and Aiden Sezer dragged the visitors back in to it at 12-10.
But Sam Powell, criticised in some quarters for his lack of metres, hit back in perfect fashion to those critics, scooting over from dummy half for a try, and Warrington doubled up through Lachlan Fitzgibbon to lead 24-10.
That cushion proved too much for Hull to come back from, with Rodrick Tai’s tackle on Lewis Martin expelling any hopes of a fightback.
