STAFF and customers were evacuated from a Warrington fish and chip shop after fire broke out.
Extensive damage was caused at the Captain’s Table in Marsh House Lane and the shop is likely to be closed for several days.
Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, tackled the blaze using a dry-powder extinguisher.
The blaze was in ducting behind the chip range but the property was severely damaged by smoke and fumes caused by burning oil.
Police had to seal off part of Marsh House Lane while fire crews were tackling the outbreak.
No-one was hurt.
In a separate incident, firefighters were called to deal with a fire involving rubbish in a barrel in Hodgkinson Avenue, Dallam and a torched wheeled bin in Hanover Street. Hosereel jets were used to extinguish the fires in both cases.
