Motorway closed by lorry fire

ALL three lanes of the M6 southbound carriageway near Warrington were closed when a heavy lorry burst into flames.
Fire crews were called to the scene, between Junctions 20 and 21 at 7.15pm last night and did not leave until midnight.
After an hour, the Highways Agency was able to re-open one lane to get traffic moving, but two lanes remained closed for more than four hours.
The lorry was laden with foodstuffs and a forklift truck had to be taken to the scene to remove the load so fire crews could ensure the fire was extinguished.
Crews wore breathing apparatus and used a hosereel jet on the fire.
No-one was hurt in the incident and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Firefighters also dealt with a blaze involving a wheeled bin in White Street, Warrington – the latest in a spate of such fires in the area.
