The incident was in London Road, Appleton, close to its junction with Broomfields Road.
Police and ambulance services were called to the scene at around 9.50pm.
The man had been involved in a collision with a Ford Focus travelling in the direction of Stretton.
He was taken to hospital where his condition today is said to be serious, but stable.
The car driver, a 28-year-old man from Northwich, was arrested on suspicion of driving after consuming excess alcohol. He was still in police custody this morning.
