A BIG celebration is planned to mark the Chinese New Year in Warrington.
The Oriental Friendship Group, a newly formed community group based in the town, is to host the celebration at the Fairfield and Howley Neighbourhood Project on Sunday, February 5.
A highlight of the day will be an appearance by Ms Ann Law, one of the veterans of Chinese Opera in the UK, and her group.
Other traditional features include the Money God, Red Envelopes, Lion Dance, Fan Dance, Tai Chi/Qi-Gong, Ribbon Dance and martial arts.
There will also be a New Year celebration lunch for the over 50s which will aim to bring together members of the older Chinese community in Warrington, especially the elderly.
Aim of the new group is to provide a platform for oriental people, currently isolated in the community, and help them find friendship and group activities locally without the language barrier.
A spokesman said: “In the old Chinese way – they helped shape our world and provided for us, it is now for us to look after them.
“It is a cultural value of the Chinese to acknowledge and repay their elderly for their lifelong hard work of bringing the next generation up.”
The event takes place from 10am to 4pm
