MEMBERS of Lymm Parish Council have expressed concern about a planned sell-off of borough-owned garage sites.
One site is in Racefield Close, off Pepper Street, Lymm – and local councillors think if the site is to be cleared it should be retained as open space.
However there has been an objection from a local residents who claims the site already attracts nuisance youths.
The borough council is carrying out a consultation exercise with a view to selling-off up to 840 garages and garage sites across the borough which could raise more than £2 million if sold.
The borough currently receives about £27,000-a-year in rent for the garages but this barely covers the cost of repairs and management.
Many garages are, in fact, in a poor condition and unused.
Among possible alternative uses for the sites are allotments and affordable housing.

How typical of this Council. It has an asset which it failed to maintain, so much so the asset is worth a lot less now. The asset was mismanaged by officers who failed to collect the rents and so there’s another deficit on the books. The Council’s solution – sell off the asset, more than likely at a loss (we’ll never know because they want to keep that transaction secret), continue to employ the negilegent officers – yet another unnecessaary expense. Moral – Why worry it’s only someone else’s money after all. One further question – does the Council know just how much land and property it owns, when it destroyed all its plans in 2006? Who was it that wanted evidence and facts before he acted?
