PLANNING chiefs are to visit the site of a proposed new house at Culcheth before deciding whether it can be built
The project involves the demolition of existing garages which have been converted for use as an art studio and construction of a one and-a-half storey house on land at the rear of Hob Hey Lane.
Outline permission for the scheme was granted in January 2004 but building never went ahead and an application to renew the consent when it expired was refused because of an over-supply of housing land across the borough. Late an appeal was dismissed.
But the site has become a target for burglars and vandals and officers are recommending the plan be approved to remove the crime problem.
A neighbour has objected on the grounds the scheme would result in a loss of privacy.
Vehicle access to the site would be from Radcliffe Avenue.

WBC planning officers are recommending the plan be approved to remove the crime problem. Is this going under the title ‘exceptional circumstances’ ? Recently an application by a local farmer to build extra living space so that his very ill wife could remain living with her family was turned down, if the circumstances in this poor farmer’s case were not ‘exceptional ‘ enough how can officers justify recommending the above application? I think there’s a real danger in passing a planning application ‘to remove the crime problem’ in that it could open up the floodgates for many more. Personally I’d recommend a better security system!
