POLICE have issued a warning to the public to be on their guard after a van driver attempted to force entry to a property at Winwick on the pretence of needing water.

The incident occurred in the Rectory Close area of Winwick yesterday, Wednesday.

A male in a van tried to force his way into an address on the pretence that he needed water for his vehicle. Luckily he never got into the address.

A police spokesperson said: “Please be careful when opening the door to strangers. Don’t allow anyone in your address in these circumstances and report straight away.
“Unfortunately these people target the elderly or vulnerable. If you see anything suspicious report it via 101 or if still happening and you are concerned call 999 in an emergency.
