MEMBERS of Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council, past and present, met up to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the parish council.
Long-standing local Cllr and current Chairman of the Parish Council, Cllr., Keith Bland said: “I was delighted to Chair the 50th year of the Culcheth & Glazebury Parish Council.
“It was nice to see past members who had either been Chairman or members over that period ‘who we could reminisce with some interesting tales. Interesting that when you look back in history to 1716 a group was formed called The Culcheth Township Committee which lasted over 100 years. This was replaced in 1895 by Culcheth Parish Council, which was then changed to Culcheth & Glazebury Parish Council in 1973. Let’s hope it lasts another 50 years. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those councillors and parish clerks for all their dedication in serving the community of our villages in the past and hopefully in the future.”
Former parish and Borough Councillor Chris Vobe added: “Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council has been serving our villages now for 50 years. This was an opportune juncture for members past and present to reflect on the Council’s numerous achievements – from funding important community initiatives to supporting hundreds of residents with individual queries and concerns. We also took time to pay tribute to, and remember, our sadly missed colleagues including Peter Caswell, Irene Brewin, Geoff Hill, John Andrew and Alan Leech.”

Petty Labour Party alive and well in Culcheth and Glazebury
I was a member of Labour Party. Member of Parish Council for several years and Chair twice
I expressed my interest in attending in October and hot this response from Parish Clerk
“Thank you for getting in touch, it’s great to hear from you. I will pass your information to Cllr Ben Alldred who is taking this forward.”
I resigned from the Labour Party in 2000 following a dispute with local.Labour MP, Mrs Jones, due to inappropriate demands for information regarding a school tribunal I chaired, I was threatened with Questions in the House(lol). I even wrote to PM Tony Blair about it
Seems petty to be not invited by the Labour Councillor organising the event but that’s just my opinion
It would have been courteous and respectful to include Gordon Aspey amongst the people you took time to pay tribute to, and remember, as a sadly missed colleague. He was a councillor for many years and a past Chairman who instigated numerous initiatives in our village.
Very true Di, he was on the council at the same time I was and a fellow Magistrate on the Leigh Bench. A very good friend to Culcheth and Glazebury
Dear Di
If you have a photograph of Gordon we would really like to include it on a gallery we have created on the Parish Council website. See the link below.

We would be grateful if you have any photographs of any of the other missing Cllr’s as we would like to make this as complete as possible.
