WARRINGTON’S Poole Park has re-opened after a £122,000 re-vamp that has made it more suitable for older children as well as toddlers.
The Mayor, Cllr Mike Biggin, attended the opening event, along with ward councillors Mike Hannon, deputy leader of the council, and Kate Hannon, executive member for leisure.
Over the last few months, the park, off Winwick Road and named after the late Alderman Joseph Poole, Mayor in 1935-36, has undergone substantial renovation.
In addition to offering facilities for older children, it also more accessible to disabled users.
The bulk of the funding came via the Department for Education’s Playbuilder fund and a Landfill Communities Fund grant provided through WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd). The borough council also contributed several thousand pounds to the project.
Cllr Kate Hannon said: “The new play equipment has made a fantastic difference to the children and families of the area. Mums have spoken to me saying it is great to see their children enjoying all of the equipment and that they feel safe there.”
Richard Smith, grants manager for WREN said: “We are committed to funding projects that make a difference to the local community. The completion of the new play area at Poole Park now provides access to good quality play for all ages and abilities and I hope it will bring many years of enjoyment for the children of Orford.”
