MAJOR road works at one of the busiest parts of Warrington’s road network – expected to cause serious traffic delays – start on Monday May 23.
Improvements on the A49 Winwick Road at the junction with A50 Long Lane will see the existing roundabout removed.
It will be replaced with a traffic signal controlled junction with additional lanes to improve traffic flows.
Work on a new junction on Winwick Road to provide access for the Orford Park Project will be carried out at the same time to minimise disruption along this section of the A49 corridor. This junction will be controlled by traffic signals and will have pedestrian/cycle facilities on the northern and eastern arms.
Part of the work will involve diverting underground services such as gas and water pipes, electric and telecommunication cables. These works have been programmed to be carried out with the main construction works.
Various temporary traffic restrictions will be in place while the project goes on but the borough council will do its best to minimise disruption. Work will be restricted during peak traffic periods and carriageway surfacing works will take place between 7pm and 5am.
A council spokesperson said: “The council apologises for any inconvenience caused during the improvement works. Information updates will be circulated to local residents and businesses.”
