Late arrival and nightmare start add to Wolves woe in another defeat

A NIGHTMARE start sent Warrington Wolves crashing to a fifth straight defeat as they were beaten 34-18 by Hull KR.

After arriving late at Craven Park and causing the kick-off to be delayed, the Wolves allowed the kick-off to bounce in to touch and it didn’t get much better.

Within 16 minutes, they were 20-0 down as a rampant Matt Parcell punished them through the middle.

Frankie Halton crashed over from close range for the first and then Ryan Hall squeezed in at the corner for the first of his two tries.

A superb break and offload by Elliott Minchella created a third for Lachlan Coote, whose short kick to the corner set up Jimmy Keinhorst for a fourth.

Warrington had just two sets of six in the opening 17 minutes and were left shell shocked.

The Robins could have scored more too, had some breaks not broken down.

The introduction of Joe Philbin and Joe Bullock gave Warrington a bit of a foothold, and they did get on the scoresheet when Peter Mata’utia’s offload found Toby King, and he gave it back to the stand-in full-back to score in the corner.

But the Wolves ended the half on the back foot, and despite seeing out four successive sets on their line, it came at a cost as Bullock was sent to the sin bin for persistent offending.

By the time he returned seven minutes to the second half, the Wolves had conceded two further tries and trailed 30-6.

The first came from a speculative pass by Coote that bounced fortuitously for Mikey Lewis, who pounced on the loose ball and scampered 20 metres under the post.

From the restart, some quick hands down the left sent Hall away and he found Jez Litten on his inside.

Any unlikely hopes of a comeback were well and truly extinguished, and even though George Williams dummied through the line to get them on the board in the second half, Hall’s second maintained Hull KR’s control.

Josh Thewlis scored one and had another ruled at as Warrington chanced their arm late on, but ultimately fell to another disappointing defeat.
