A VETERAN community worker raised £30,000 to help renovate the Baptist Church Hall in Sankey Street, Warrington.
Alf Clemo, 82, is treasurer of the Older People’s Forum and has been working for the local community for more than 20 years.
Last year he was rewarded by an invitation from the Queen to a Buckingham Palace garden party.
Joan Penrith, secretary of the Older People’s Forum, said: “Alf is a fantastic man who has worked tirelessly for the community.
“He is our treasurer and he alone is responsible for the fund-raising. He has opened up the church hall to anyone in our community who wish to use it and a number of groups are now using it..”
The Older People’s Forum has more than 500 members and meets at the church hall on the first Monday of each month with the aim of getting older people out and about and enjoying life. It is open to anyone over 50.
