Roads re-open after five fire crews tackle blaze at Efes restaurant

Roads and business in and around Sankey Street have now re-opened after five fire crews were called out early this morning to tackle a blaze at the three-storey Efes restaurant building

Shortly after 6.20 am crews from Warrington, two from Penketh, one from Lymm, one from Birchwood and an aerial appliance found that the three storey Efes Brasserie building was well alight.

Two hose reel jets were used to tackle the flames.

A number of road closures were put in place as firefighters tackled the blaze.

Update 7.45am

Two hose reel jets and a covering jet are tackling the fire from the ground and the appliance.

The incident has been placed into sectors to assist in extinguishing the fire.

The gas and electric supply to the building has been isolated.

Update 8.45am

The incident is no longer sectorised and crews are working from the front and back of the building.

Firefighters are damping down the first floor with a hose reel jet.

Update 10am

The gas supply to the premises has been isolated. Engineers are working to isolate the electrics.

Firefighters are standing by while this takes place.

Update 11.30am

The aerial appliance was used to take a thermal scan of the upper sections of the building to check for hot spots.

Two fire engines remain at the scene.

Update 5.45pm

Firefighters remain in attendance at the scene and are using a thermal imaging camera to check for any hotspots.

The road outside the premises has now reopened along with neighbouring businesses.
