A team of firefighters from Warrington took part in a three-day challenge event at the World Extrication and Trauma Challenge Championships in Cork, Southern Ireland.
The men from Blue Watch, Warrington, came a creditable fifth in the trauma challenge.
Firefighter Adam McConkey and Firefighter Lee Howells are the current Cheshire Champions and were invited to compete following their success at last year’s World Championships in Germany.
Top national rescue teams compete each year in the event which is designed to challenge emergency services and raise awareness of the problem of road death and injury. More than 50 teams from throughout the world take part.
In the trauma challenge the medical and life saving skills of firefighters are tested as they take part in simulated incidents using live casualties.
Firefighter McConkey said “We are pleased with our result and feel it puts us in a strong position for the National Championships held in October where we are looking to regain our title after missing last years National Event due to service commitments.”
