Fire crews rescue man from canal at Stockton Heath

FOUR fire engines were called out early today after reports of a man in the Manchester Ship Canal at Warrington.

Shortly before 2.30am, firefighters were called to Fairfield Road, Stockton Heath where they found a man had fallen into the canal near the swing bridge.



Fire engines attended from Warrington, Lymm, Penketh and Widnes, along with a Rope Rescue Unit from Lymm.
Firefighters used the rope rescue unit to bring the casualty to safety and he was then passed to the care of paramedics.
The crews were detained at the scene for around 45 minutes.
