UPDATED: THE M56 near Warrington re-opened this morning following yesterday’s incident involving an overturned lorry which caused lengthy delays.

The carriageway had to be resurfaced following a spillage of fuel after the vehicle overturned on the eastbound carriageway between junction 10 for Warrington and the A49 for Northwich

Police, who said there were thankfully no serious injuries, urged motorists to find alternative routes and allow extra time for their journey with traffic diverting through Warrington causing local congestion.
Four fire engines attended – one from Warrington, one from Birchwood, one from Lymm and one from Runcorn
Emergency services including ambulance and police also attended to the scene.
Crews used sawdust the HGV load was carrying and sand to soak up fuel that leaked onto the road.
The driver was handed into the care of paramedics with cuts and grazes.
Crews stood by with a hose reel as a precaution while vehicle recovery took place.
