GRAPPENHALL’S ambitions for promotion to the premier division in the RSK Cheshire County League were not helped much over the weekend
A side short of several key players lost at home to Bramhall on Saturday and although they won on Sunday in a re-arranged game against Davenham, postponed earlier in the season because of a COVID outbreak, it was not a victory to inspire much confidence.
On Saturday, Grappers were dismissed for a below par 135 with Albert Pennington top scoring with 26. The visitors also found runs hard to get after losing early wickets, but the modest target was never going to be enough for Grappers to defend and Bramhall chased down the runs for the loss of six wickets with eight overs remaining.

Sunday saw an improvement in fortunes but after struggling Davenham had been rolled over for a meagre 63, Grappers’ batsmen didn’t have to do much and claimed the victory for the loss of one wicket in just 11 overs.
Steve Rooney was Grappers’ star bowler, finishing with the remarkable figures of 5-0 in three overs, including a hat trick. Lewis Porter also picked up three wickets.
The weekend saw Grappenhall slip to fifth place in the league – 42 points adrift of the leaders.
