LYMM resident “Lord Alan Gibson of Hougan Manor” has raised more than £4,000 for good causes by publishing his life story.
What started out as sporting memoirs was extended to include his love of theatre, music, friendship and other interesting aspects of his life, resulting in “The Life and Times of ‘Lord Alan Gibson of Hougan Manor.'”
Initially a limited edition, he has distributed one hundred and fifty copies raising £4,200 fo far in support of Cancer charities, St Roccos and Lymm Rugby club.
Alan, who lives in Lymm, Warrington, said: “It is said there is a book – a life story – in each of us and I am pleased to have fulfilled this mantra.”
Born in Welwyn Garden City in 1946, a year after VE Day, the book contains his sporting memories, as he was born into a family of Spurs supporters, albeit he lived closer to Highbury, home of Arsenal.
He was advised to carry a tennis ball at all times as his dad told him “if you can control a tennis ball, you will have no problem with a football.”
The same tennis ball helped him enhance his cricket skills as well.
He lists his golden year of sport as a player and fervent fan as 1954-1968.
The book has been written for the enjoyment of his family and friends and to help raise funds for The Prostate Cancer Society, Cancer Research UK, St Rocco’s Hospice and Lymm Rugby Club.
