St Wilfrid’s Church raises the roof at Easter

OUT of sight of passers- by in Church Lane in Grappenhall, exciting things have been happening with a new building project at St Wilfrid’s Church.

After 900 years of service to the people of Grappenhall, St Wilfrid’s Church is building an annexe. It will have a lovely meeting room for school visits, and community activities with a tea bar and toilets.
The roof is now completed. The Welsh slate tiles blend beautifully with the existing tiled roof. Oak framed doors and windows are next then fitting the electrics, plumbing and heating.

“I am delighted with the care that is being taken by all the people working to create this wonderful addition to our historic church. Darren from Grosvenor Construction has kept them all going, despite all the problems of Covid and the weather – we are very grateful ” said Reverend Jane Proudfoot.
Churchwarden Linda Stockton said: “It is great to see all the planning and fundraising coming together. I look forward to raising the new flag that I have given to the church flying on the tower flagpole for Easter Sunday.
“We are now looking to fund the “Safe Access for All” improvements to the Church Track, pedestrian path, Tower courtyard and 18 new car parking spaces – which will make it so much easier and safer for people who want to access the Conservation Area by the school, Scout hut/campsite, 2 pubs and of course St Wilfrid’s Church and the Parish Centre.
“We are very grateful for the £5,000 from Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council and £10,000 from the Bernard Sunley Foundation to help create these access improvements that will be open to all.
